The thirst for new data and insight back

Back in late 2012, a report1 on a study into the lifespan of companies in the S&P 500 Index produced a pretty shocking statistic, which was that the average lifespan of an S&P 500 company had shrunk from sixty-one years in 1958 to just eighteen years in 2012 with projections indicating that the figure was set to shrink even further. At the time (2012) the rate at which companies were being replaced in the S&P 500 was one every two weeks. The same study projected that 75% of companies in the S&P 500 would be replaced by 2027.

This paper looks at how this can be achieved, the current approaches to making this possible and the issues with those approaches. It also defines a set of requirements for making this more agile and looks at how two vendors, Datawatch and Dell, are combining their self-service data preparation and self-service analytics technologies to meet these requirements in a Big Data environment.
