Cutting Through The Hype Of Big Data
Bill Franks, Teradata Corporation, Chief Analytics Officer

Based on content from the popular book Taming The Big Data Tidal Wave, this talk will cut through the hype around big data and help the audience better understand what they need to do to succeed with big data in their organizations starting today.
Included in the discussion will be examples of big data and the value it can drive, factors that make big data both different and yet more of the same, staffing considerations, tips on getting started, and perspectives on the future of big data. The aim of the presentation is to be both educational and thought provoking.

11:30-12:00: Kaffeepause

Teradata 2: 12:00-13:30
Taming Big Data: The Technologies, Processes and Methods
Bill Franks, Teradata Corporation, Chief Analytics Officer

Historically, those who work in the world of Advanced Analytics have done their work in a separate environment. Analysts and data scientists today are using more complex architectures for their processes, including embedding analytics within multiple environments. The benefits of the effort required to do this consistently far outweigh the costs.
In this talk, we’ll discuss how analytics teams can make full use of the Teradata ecosystem as they attempt to scale their efforts. We’ll cover how Teradata, Teradata Aster, and Hadoop can all play a role in the taming of big data. We’ll also cover the use of data labs, the concept of Enterprise Analytic Datasets, and the management of modeling processes.

13.30-14.45: Mittagessen

Teradata 3: 14:45-16:15
Taming Big Data: The Individuals & Team
Bill Franks, Teradata Corporation, Chief Analytics Officer

This talk aims to help attendees understand how to build the right team of analytics talent to tame big data and drive business value. Regardless of whether someone calls themselves a data scientist, an analyst, a data miner, or something else, common traits are shared by the best in the business.
However, the most important traits of a great analytic professional are not what people often think of first. Focusing on the wrong traits can lead to hiring the wrong people, and this can be devastating. This talk will cover what to look for. Also covered will be perspectives on how to organize analytic teams. After this talk, attendees will be better equipped to continue to build the analytic talent within their organizations.

16.15-16.45: Kaffeepause

Teradata 4: 16:45-18:15
Bringing it together: Enabling Analytic Innovation
Bill Franks, Teradata Corporation, Chief Analytics Officer

Establishing a culture of innovation and discovery is neither easy nor common. Most organizations do not give serious attention to the idea. However, without continuous innovation an organization will be doomed to fade away as its competition relentlessly takes away its business. In order to put in place a culture of innovation and discovery, a company will need to challenge ingrained assumptions and thinking.
In this session, we will discuss some key concepts to focus on to successfully use innovative analytics to drive change in your organization, as well as some specific ideas on how to set up an Analytic Innovation Center. The goal of the session is to get attendees to think differently about how their organization is approaching analytics today.
